Check out these personal messages of support from members of Democracy Workers Collective!
We bring compassion, empathy, and respect to the work we do with voters every day. I believe that the Democracy Workers Collective will help us foster that same compassion and empathy internally and will help Democracy Works to better meet the needs of staff as we strive to build a truly representative workplace.
I am energized every day by the phenomenal people with whom I get to work. Stepping more fully into our collective power will strengthen our workplace, deepen our relationships, and improve the way we’re able to push toward a more equitable democracy. I joyfully stand with the Democracy Workers Collective!
I support our union for the same reason I came to work at Democracy Works: I believe in democracy. I also believe that striving for more open and equitable decision-making processes within our organization will only help us in our pursuit of these goals for the whole US electorate. For me, it’s not just that these goals are connected in an abstract way, but also that I know people do their best work when they are happy, supported, and feel able to give real input on important decisions.
My favorite part about my job is learning from and getting to know so many impressive co-workers. I want all of these amazing people to feel happy, supported, and listened to, so that we can do our best work, together.
Democracy Workers are some of the most skilled and passionate colleagues I’ve ever had the pleasure to work with. As individuals and as teams, we make the “work” happen despite all obstacles. Unionizing gives us the platform we need to own our excellence and ensures our programs are well equipped to help all voters. Democracy only Works when all voices are represented, this is why we have formed the Democracy Workers Collective.
I am so proud of the work and care our organization puts into ensuring folks can participate in our democracy through voting, and believe that Democracy Works will only improve by truly embodying the value “we <3 democracy” through our union. I am excited to work alongside fellow Democracy Workers Collective members to include staff voices in the future of our organization as we work together to ensure a representative, inclusive, equitable, accessible, and just Democracy Works and democracy here in the United States.
Democracy Works has made substantial strides toward increasing voter access, building the tools Americans need to participate in our elections. Yet while we work toward a more representative democracy nationwide, staff have yet to be afforded equitable representation in our workplace. The time has come to live up to our values internally and establish an organization founded in democratic, collective decision making. Per our organization’s values, “We trust one another as leaders and stewards of our mission.” I’m grateful that through our union, we will work together to shape a safe, inclusive, and just organization that honors the expertise, leadership, and experience all Democracy Workers bring to our workplace.
I am thrilled to be a founding member of the Democracy Workers Collective and to exemplify the values which brought me to this organization. In a year of unprecedented challenges to our lives and to democracy in the United States, my colleagues and I came together stronger than ever to form this union. In solidarity with my coworkers, I feel empowered and excited to join a rich history of workers advancing civil liberties, social justice, and economic equality in our democracy.
My fellow Democracy Workers Collective members have gone above and beyond to make democracy work in elections at all levels across the country. When I reflect on the work we did during the 2020 election, I’d even go so far as to say “going above and beyond” is an understatement. The work we’ve done over the past year alone has been incredible and truly embodied the Democracy Works value of “we work best together.” Unionizing will allow us to continue to strengthen and live out that value.
